Bus to BETT 09

October 23, 2008

After last year’s successful and inspiring visit, the LA will be running another bus to the BETT Show this year. The BETT Show is the world’s largest technology in education show, held in Olympia, London and it is an ideal opportunity to find out what technologies are currently available -and what’s coming soon. You have a chance to try out the products and talk to the experts, as well as to attend seminars and lectures by leading experts. The bus will run on Friday January 16th, leaving Shrewsbury around 7am, picking up at Telford Services and returning in the evening (exact times have yet to be finalised). We are offering places on the bus for a mere £20! If you are interested in joining us, please contact chris.walker@shropshire.gov.uk To find out more about the BETT Show 2009, visit http://www.bettshow.com/

Teachers’ opinions of PoSTech needed

July 18, 2007
In connection with the iClass project and my research at the Institute of Education I have been working on designing a Personalised Search Tool for Teachers called PoSTech, see www.postech.me.uk .

Therefore, if you are a school teacher (primary, secondary or post-compulsory) in UK and have ten minutes to spare then your help would be really appreciated.

To search with the personalised search tool just type in your search keyword/s, followed by selecting your preferred category/ies i.e. subject, resource type and advanced search options, as you would do normally with other search engines, like Google or Yahoo and then click on the ‘Search’ button to view your personalised search results.

To send us your feedback please click on the ‘feedback’ button’ (coloured yellow) to complete the online questionnaire. Please note, to see the ‘feedback button’ teachers would need to click on the ‘Search’ button first.

**** To identify UK teachers, teachers’ name and school address are required, however, if you do not wish to disclose all or any of these information please just type in ‘Becta mailing list’ and ‘UK’ for your name and school address.

For further information please contact Faezeh Seyedarabi at the Institute of Education, University of London.

Your support and valuable time is most appreciated,
Faezeh.

Daily Prophet nears reality

May 8, 2006

I must admit I am a bit of a Harry Potter fan and liked the dynamic nature of the “Daily Prophet” - well it seems we don’t have long to wait - see details of the flexible e-Readers including the time line for developments at Plastic Logic Clearly the scope for these developments to impact on education is enormous, and I’m particularly interested in the potential that this technology has to meet the seeming “human need” to have a “paper” analogue (witness the limited success of the e-book on pda type platforms) - could this technology give the edge to gain social acceptance like the mobile phone - indeed could it piggy back on the mobile phone?
