What you will learn

In the age of digital literacy and creativity, educators need to seek out best practice in the use of the tools available.  Now is your opportunity to develop the ideas you have already had about digital creativity, to see how others are using these new tools with great benefits in learning gains and to understand the pedagogy that underpins the excitement of digital media. You will learn in an environment where you are given the opportunity, inspiration, space and support to be creative with like-minded colleagues. All learning on this unique course will give you a thorough background in digital media in an education context but is carried out in relaxed and friendly manner so is suitable everyone regardless of their experience with IT and creating digital content for.

At this event, you will investigate a range of activities that focus on different digital media:

• Mobile learning- iPod and iPhone in the context of Apple’s Learning Environment
• Podcasting/wikis and blogs
• Creating content using digital video cameras and editing software
• Exploring the use of still images, music and animation in multimedia projects
• Methods for sharing digital projects on DVD and the WebSharing of experiences, action planning and portfolio development.
• Development of skills in subject/age group relevant project

Hot on the heels of the new MacBook Pro from Apple that promises 8hrs battery life (www.apple.com/uk/macbookpro/), ASUS launch their 1000HE EeePC that promises 9.5hrs battery life (promos.asus.com/US/1000HE/ASUS/index.html).  Obviously these are the maximum battery life that you can expect to get, but I would hope that you should be able to get a school days worth of use out of the battery.   Does this mean that ‘battery life’ will soon become something that we no longer have to worry about as long as we charge the devices up every evening?

Microsoft have released their first iPhone/iPod touch application – Seadragon (livelabs.com/seadragon/). The application is free and appears to use their Deep Zoom technology. On 11th July Joe Moretti will be running a ‘Garageband‘ training session at STDC, the focus of the session will be music at KS2 & KS3.  I saw Joe do a session in Newcastle earlier this year and was amazed by what Garageband can do.  The course is free of charge for Shropshire schools.
