Meet Wenlock and Mandeville

The new Olympic mascots have been unveiled ready for the run-up to the Olympic games in 2012.  Named for our own Shropshire town where William Penney Brookes provided the inspiration for the modern Olympic Games, Wenlock and his paralympics partner Mandeville were lovingly created from the last two drops of steel in the Bolton foundry where the girders for the stadium were cast.

Take a look at the BBC site (click here) to see the full story, and a great digital animation of the story of tehir creation.  Expect to see a lot more of these digital characters in the future as their computer-generated story unfolds.  You can even get them to come to your school if you present a good enough case, inspired by the Games. Lets see how many times we can get them to come to Shropshire!

(Edit: There are some downloadable teaching and learning resources here)
