<description>Mobile Phones and Internet safety tackled by
Actress Julie Walters -in a New DVD to Help Prevent
the Sexual Abuse and Bullying of Children.

Matters2Me is a Child Protection DVD aimed at children, parents
and teachers- to educate them in a safe way about the dangers of the
Internet and mobile phones.

The DVD - which comes with a supporting information booklet - aims to help parents, children and all of those who work with children to recognise the many, all too real situations that children can become involved in which are abusive, or might lead to physical or sexual abuse. The DVD is set around a village and uses nine real-life case histories about particular circumstances at home, in school or on the sportsfield to show how children can become the victims of abuse – both physical, sexual and bullying and how parents, teachers, youth workers, and sports coaches, indeed anyone working with children can do something positive to overcome these dangers.

Specific scenarios in the DVD include:
•	Abuse within the family home,
•	Dangers when using the Internet, Chatrooms and Mobile Phones,
•	Bullying at school

The DVD uses specially commissioned animation to engage a young audience and is suitable for children between the ages of 6 and 16 and presents situations, characters and a landscape that is readily recognisable as a diverse community in contemporary Britain. The DVD specifically targets the increasing use of Mobile Phones and home Internet access and provides clear safety tips and advice.

Introducing the DVD, Julie Walters says – “I believe by promoting understanding and education to parents, carers and children in how to recognise the early signs of grooming, before abuse happens, is vitally important, and the most effective way to help reduce the numbers of children abused every year. The aim is prevention, not to scare, but enabling everyone to become more aware, and therefore protect themselves."
