‘Unblocking’ a website
March 20, 2007If you find that a site you really want to use has been blocked by Azzuri, this is the procedure to get it unblocked for your school
- Phone the SITSS helpline on 01743 252200 and explain what you want
- Follow this up with a fax on school headed notepaper or use the online form from the Shropshire County Council website
- If its urgent, you need to let them know that - with the reason why, otherwise a reasonable time scale to get it done is around 8 hours.
The procedure is the same to get a site blocked.

sorry guys; but I think the steps outlined in your
Jude Brownsorry guys; but I think the steps outlined in your post are completely outrageous. From the comfort of my classroom, whilst teaching, I USED to be able to click the email link to Azzurri and request that a site be blocked or unblocked. In about 30 seconds. Job done. Now you’re telling me I have to call Shrewsbury - outside line needed, can’t do that from my classroom, so I’ll have to wait until lunchtime then. AND then send a fax on headed notepaper. Wait to find the secretary. Get headed notepaper. Write message on computer, print on the paper, go to the office, fax it. Write in the fax book - oh, and get charged to my department for the privilege. THEN the site will be blocked / unblocked. What planet are you people working on? Certainly not the same one as the majority of class teachers. This means (a) I won’t bother telling you about sites that need to be blocked - let someone else go through all that rigmarole. And (b) when I find that sites which don’t really need to be blocked ARE blocked, I’ll simply go back to teaching about spreadsheets and databases and forget about all the lovely things we discussed at the conference today. Thanks greatly, folks. You just set the Web2.0 dialogue back by several years.
Jude, you can also goto the online form and this
SteveJude, you can also goto the online form and this will do the same job as outlined above (I think). I will ask Jean to post a reply to the issues you have outlined.
I note that the form only seems to be for
Jude BrownI note that the form only seems to be for BLOCKING a site, not for UNBLOCKING… is this significant??
The online form on the SITSS home page for blocking
Jean ShepherdThe online form on the SITSS home page for blocking websites was set up as an alternative way for school staff to quickly notify Azzurri (and SITSS) of an issue. There is no reason why a form for “unblocking” can’t be set up and I will arrange for this to be done.
If Azzurri have been accepting your emails for unblocking sites then I see no reason why they shouldn’t continue to do so.
However, yesterday the issue raised was specifically with the youtube site which, at Authority level, we have asked Azzurri to block for the reasons I outlined. If a school decides that they wish to use this site and require it to be unblocked, Azzurri will ask for this to be confirmed in writing and, to safeguard themselves, this is reasonable request.
