Conference: computer games in English, Media and Drama
May 22, 2006Researchers at the Institute of Education and NATE are organising a conference on computer games in English, Media and Drama. The day will review various ways in which computer games can be incorporated into English and Media classes, by being studied as texts and cultural phenomena.
Workshops will cover a range of issues, including: teaching games as texts, audiences and institutions; games, drama, literary genre and role-play; game design principles; and practical game production in class. Participants will have the opportunity to try a new 3D game production software, developed by Immersive Education and the Institute of Education, London. The software, called Mission Maker, has been used in English and Media classes as part of a research project on computer games and media literacy. Teachers involved in the research will report back on how they taught games through analysis and practical production work. Workshops will be led by leading practitioners from Parkside Community College and media literacy experts from the Centre for the Study of Children Youth and Media.
The day is free for teachers (funded by the research project); and a percentage of travel costs will be reimbursed.
Date: 24th June, 11 am to 4 pm
