The Map Detectives – Urban Mystery (Sherston)
November 12, 2005Many schools will already have, and know the value of, the original Map Detectives. This is a new, updated adventure game in the same genre, combining problem solving with map reading and geographical skills.
Pupils navigate around the environment using arrows on a photographic view of their current location and a map of the town or railway which charts their progress. Individual progress can be logged and saved, so pupils can return to the adventure periodically, perhaps after discussing progress as a group, or selecting new strategies. The adventure can be changed easily, for example, it can be switched to night time mode, the number of people to find can be increased, or a ‘beat the clock’ facility can be introduced. Pupils are encouraged to use an index, a route planner and a notebook to record clues.
The CD ROM can also be used in ‘explore’ mode as an open-ended resource for teachers to use to develop any mapping skills, for example asking pupils to find the shortest route, the most picturesque, what would you do if x road was closed?etc.
Prices start at £59.95 for a single use licence. This product can be purchased with elcs. More details can be found at
