Working with the media
July 21, 2005Today John Hargreaves, the Shropshire County Council Press Officer, gave a presentation to the Advisory Service on communicating through the media. The boot was on the other foot as Advisers were captivated by the fast-paced advice given by John at the Monkmoor Teacher Development Centre.
John, 40, showed the audience how to give value for money when giving press releases. He shared a number of techniques that help to raise the profile of the service in the local media and told us why we should be doing it. “If you really want to get noticed, make sure you put in a quote” quipped John.
Keith Havercroft, Music Adviser, bravely volunteered for the first mock radio interview and showed us how to make an impact over the air.

The advisers were issued with the corporate branding handbook to read for the evening. Apparently there is a test in the morning.

DaleOther people are considering the jump to Teoma. With it’s technology being Ask-Jeeves based, it’s a trusted name in the education sector. Giving students a choice of search engines and an understanding of how to choose between them has got to be desirable since it acknowledges Bloom by encouraging the analysis of what has been revealed by a web search and subsequent synthesis of a refined search.
