Search Engines

July 1, 2005

After today’s Shropshire ICT Co-ords meeting where Steve showed the vagaries of Google as a search engine (see this article on Google Bombing), I tried some others. Here’s one I like, not necessarily for the search engine capability (it’s yahoo powered) but for the interface, which I’ve used as a file manager in the past. And for the name - Grokker. Those who are ancient enough to have read Heinlein’s Stranger_in_a_Strange_Land (as appearing in the Billy Joel song “We didn’t start the fire“) will fully understand what grok means.

Teoma is “Ask Jeeves for grown-ups”

Mirago is a family-friendly UK based engine (thanks for that one Laurie).
