Shibboleth

June 30, 2005

FE and HE are looking towards more distributed campuses where their students have access to a number of resources from a single login. There are systems that already do this - Athens is one example that allows a single login at one institution to give access to a number of different subscriptions, for example to journals. The open source solution, Shibboleth, is being introduced for single logins and a number of learning platforms, including Digitalbrain, are being “Shibbed” ready for the single login. These will soon be available to secondary schools.
